One of the reasons we are so dependant on foreign oil is the bad policy-making
decisions of the 1960's in the U.S.A. This isn't the only reason though, another is, "The arrogance of Big Oil Conglomerates".
Every body loves a conspiracy - here the conspirators were Modile, Atlantic
RichField, Exxon, Gulf and other major oil companies of the day. They were pressuring the United States government to give
them all kinds of tax free incentives, which in the end never materialized. However, some form of tax free incentives did. These
were the beginning of the end for us, as a consumer. These incentives gave the oil companies tax free write-offs, if they invested
in certain foreign lands.
It was a compromise agreement. Similar to the cigarette companies agreements of
today with the Attorney Generals office, in the U.S. - despite the illusion of a pay off of wrong doing, the cigarette company is
getting advertisement out of this whole thing and whatever they have to pay for their punishment is passed onto the consumer.
So in the end, it is like them getting free advertisement all around.
These major players are not dummies by far - the oil
companies, the cigarette companies, the insurance companies, major sports associations/leagues, banks, lawyers, etc. They get
what they want by stealth or trickery. One way or the other. In this case, the win was by the oil companies who now had the
blessings of the U.S. Government to go and explore foreign lands without U.S. interventions and whatever they (oil companies)
needed in those countries, they got - in exchange for foreign policy incentives, such as use of land for military operations.
Most of these policies have backfired on us. Shah Pavlavy - whether I have spelt
this right or not, is irrelevant - he was the ruler of Iran. He bilked those poor people over there for years out of billions of
dollars. Not only did he take in the oil revenues, but he took billions from the U.S. for military ops and what he spent the
money on is well, undetermeined. But yet the story is basic - Iranians and others for years have suffered a great harm at the
expense of the U.S. government and big oil. Shortly after the shah was ousted, OPEC was formed. OPEC is a synonym for
Oil Producing Export Countries.
This formation is a direct result of shabby policy making in Washington D.C. over
the Mid-East and it's oil rich lands. Just a minor drop in the bucket of bad policy-making decisions that come out of
Washington as it pertains to foreign policies. Many countries have fallen into the category of "We Hate The United States and
it's People".
Mid-Eastern people are not the only ones who hate us. Yet they are the ones we
have become so greatly reliant upon for our energy needs and this is horrible at best and catastrophic once you add in the hate
factor, as far as our financial pocket is concerned. As for our world and our environment, it is shameful, that we have not
noticed a long time ago, the ecological harm we would create by using fossil-fuels as an energy source.
We no longer need them, it has become both, ecologically and financially impractical
to continue on in this sort of relationship with them. If they hate us now, wait to see how much they will hate us when we break
free of all dependence on them and their oil.
There is more to discuss here so stay posted.
