According to reputable sources, the sports organizations of this country make
billions of dollars, without taxation. They are reportedly non-profits. I could never figure this out. This issue erks me to no end.
Then, they enjoy a special privilege only they can - the good people of the towns and cities they are in, foot the bill for their
stadiums, so they could make even more money, "tax free".
Matt Bauer, on CBS's Today show interviewed the CEO Exxon-Mobile about the
billions of dollars they make from the sales of gasoline and related products while others are literally just making ends meet in
their daily lives. Matt tried his best to get this CEO to justify the large sums of cash they bring in as profits at a time where
many are struggling to survive.
Well, to me, although this is all going on, I would say this, Exxon-Moblile has a right to make
the money they make, just like you or me. If it were us, sitting in that seat, we would want to make that kind of money without
a doubt. At least they pay taxes. It is the market that drives the price of gas, not those who set the prices.
If everyone were paying their fair share in taxes, we may not be in this predicament
right now. For instance, some politicians reportedly said they want a tax free summer at the gas pump, so we do not pay as
much for fuel as we should. The problem with this is that it would drive up demand and thus, drive up prices. So where is the
savings in this? Back in the oil companies and producers pockets and we would be left with no money to pay for our
dilapidating highway and road systems.
Increased standard of living is always a ideal situation. We could have an increased
standard of living should we have to pay less in taxes no doubt. We would pay less taxes had everyone who is making a profit
is paying their fair share of the revenue bill that they are supposed to. Any company who is making a billion dollars in money
during the course of operating a business in any calendar year, is certainly making a profit. Unless, that is, they can show where
this money is helping thousands and thousands or even a million people per year. It has to do some good for as many people
as possible, not just a select few. This is unrealistic and unacceptable, at least to me it is.
The National Football League, The Natinal Basketball Association, The National
Hockey League, National Baseball and any other sports associations, leagues or federations have gone to far without taxation.
When they report as they must once a year to the Internal Revenue Service, the IRS is required to determine whether or not
they have made a profit. It seems to me, that when a group of a select few send in this report to the IRS, they skirt the rules to
show they have not made a profit. How this is done is beyond me!
You would think maybe as I do, that after the first billion dollars, someone would
say that this is a profit.
Imagine stamping out hunger, imagine increasing the quality of education, imagine
affordable to no cost medical coverage, imagine our government coming up with, in their national laboratories, an alternative
fuel suitable to all of us. This takes money and new revenues - revenues that should have been paid the first year a billion
dollars was reported by a national sports organization.
There is more to discuss here so stay posted.
